Fashion isn’t the only contributor to ecological degradation, but it’s a major one. Studies show that fashion is responsible for 10% of the world’s carbon emissions and 10% to 20% of the world’s pesticide use. Major brands in the industry aren’t doing much to improve sustainability, either. In fact, less than 11% of them have implemented recycling strategies for their items♻️

Upcycling means to transform clothes, accessories, and textile waste into new products. Upcycled items could be post-consumer waste (items that have been purchased, worn, and discarded) or deadstock (items that did not sell).We have the chance to pave our way for sustainable fashion by upcycling clothing or buying from brands that specialize in it. As a result of this workshop, you will get excellent skills and understanding of how to transform an old thing into a new, unique one. Below will be tasks that will help you in this.

Firstly, we want you to watch this video for inspiration to create your own unique products. Also, this video tells a step-by-step guide in the process of turning an old blouse into an interesting little bag.

We prepared for you 3 Tips For Upcycling Clothes, before to go the tasks:https://youtu.be/cUA9FaLwkn0
☘️1 Don't let yourself get overwhelmed.
Don't tell yourself that you are solely responsible, or that you have to take on this global issue alone. All of us have to do our part.
☘️2 Think outside the Box.
Some unconventional items that can be used for upcycling include:
* Curtains
, Scarves

* Towels
, Blankets

* Purses/bags

* Hardware/jewelry (we love using old binder rings, safety pins, chains, charms, and other hardware accessories to elevate upcycled clothes)

☘️3 Aim for zero-waste.
Zero-waste clothing is made entirely out of reused materials — even down to the thread.

If you wish to upcycle your old clothing, just remember this: You are making a huge, positive impact on the environment 🌎

Upcycling for future of our planet Get this badge

To get the badges, you use old clothes creatively and upcycle them into something new👚👛 Feel free to create some incredibles things. We’ve outlined the basic steps of the process below:

📍Step 1: Find an item you want to upcycle
We've found that the challenge of upcycling old clothes into something new is much more rewarding this way.

📍Step 2: Find a design pattern (or draw up your own sketch!)
You can download a wide variety of sewing patterns online for free (f.e. on Pinterest - https://www.pinterest.com/sewingfromatoz/free-sewing-patterns/) , or you can purchase them from fabric stores like JOANN’s.

📍Step 3: Stitch (or opt for a no-sew design)
The work you put in to learn and become a better sewer will be worth it in the end when you have the power to make your own clothes and save the planet while doing it.
No-sew design could be:
- cutting: you can also convert a pair of jeans into denim shorts.
- dyeing: there are various ways to dye your clothes, with tie dye being a well-known one.
- painting: All you need is your determination, inspiration, fabric paint and brushes.
